Although David Carter has passed on to unknown planes, his singular aural creation will live on in his place, eternally. Leaving this mortal coil in early 2011, these recordings have been in our possession for the greater part of two years. This release comes out today with a slightly heavy heart, only in that David will never be granted the opportunity to hold the first incarnation of his work in a physical format.

These amazing, minimal-yet-lush soundscapes and compositions have an unearthly flow, bleeding into the background and raining footfalls down upon the ashen back alleys of a city lost to silence. Ranging from drifting ambience to hallucinogenic barrels of sound, the seven tracks which make up this tape (originally slated to fall under the project name "Terra Firma") truly do run the gamut of sounds available to most musicians today.

After recording this album sometime between 2008 and 2009, David up and sold all of his audio equipment to form an online magazine & a post-based mail-order dedicated to obscure and often deviant Horror DVDs and VHS tapes. Being the only known recordings he created prior to his death in March of 2011, the scattered, somehow raw and uncut quality to some portions of the tracks remains as elusive as ever, finding a true basis in the obscurity other musicians attempt to force and flaunt. Minimalistic, driving, defiant in their own way... a truly defined gem.

Finding that his work needed something 'extra', David approached Austin-based musician and producer Ryan Harris (Cazukay, Ghost Fires, Super Black Moon), asking if he would remix and rework the tracks. That, he certainly did. With the finesse and determination of some of the world's finest audio wizards, Ryan managed to take these sparse, deafening pieces and utterly transform them into the soundtrack for another dimension; floating, lush, ambient droves of percussion, synthwork, and worlds of organic effects the human mind would never dream of. By June of 2010, Ryan had perfected the remixes of David's work, and both came together to form an electronic masterpiece worthy of all of the Godfathers teaching & preaching of mechanical sounds before them.

Sadly, due to personal reasons beyond our comprehension, David's state of being began to deteriorate, and less than a year later, he slipped away in his sleep, leaving behind an untold legacy, and an unknown potential for becoming one of the most important names in modern electronic music today.

Disheartening, yes; regardless, Haute Magie is honoured and proud to head the task of bringing these recordings to light. With Ryan Harris (operating for this release under the moniker "The Witch Family"), we present to the world the only known work of David Carter, and a re-envisioning of that work so absolutely in line and touch with the original that after the first few listens, one's mind will not be able to differentiate between one artist or track and the next.

All proceeds from this release will go directly into a special, deluxe issue of this release:

double LP, 180 gram coloured vinyl records with the entire album // gatefold jacket with new artwork // full size poster with new artwork // additional CD with new remixes by various artists

Drifting home. An oxymoron, but completely accurate in its own right.

The music of Philadelphia-based artist and composer Jen Paul can be described in a multitude of ways, but whether the track in question carries raw, heated blues guitar or washed out ambient waves of sound, everything carries with it the distinct quality of eternally floating into some ether-elsewhere; yet, everything remains firmly rooted in the soil of a place to call home.

Utilising the guitar as her main instrument of choice, Jen frequently divulges in the otherworldy calling of objects which seem to have no earthly constraints, moving from synthesised sine to frequent organic drones in a mere second. Voices seep into the mix, heady and bated, finding no foothold in the cragged complexion of this barren whirlwind of lush noises.

Finding its roots from foreign seeds planted in an all-around American backyard, this compilation of tracks (handpicked by the artist herself from a collection of years worth of albums), simply entitled "†", complies with the minimalist mindset while opening expansive fissures in a complex and unyielding land.

The strings used throughout the nearly hour long tape bend and sway underneath and around its reels, ranging from fingerpicked acoustics to completely demolished and wrenched-out electric slides, all bathed in a thick wall of reverb and sunkist crunch. Found sound samples and delayed percussion rhythms sink into pastures held low by a violet sun, casting itself on an oceanic playground fitted with moss and stone.

This Relic is summoned in the form of a cassette. Red tape shells are imprinted with black ink, housed in shrinkwrapped plastic norelco cases with full colour J-cards, featuring front cover photgraphy by Kate Kell and inner artwork & layout by D.S. Ciarán & Amanda Boutourline.

Whether by air or by water, the songs on There Are Things To Come I Can't Imagine reach out and travel freely. Like the lonesome, weary travellers they very well may represent, these short pieces reflect and represent the adventurous inner child spirit many artists are too disconnected with to fall into, or simply cannot comprehend. Perhaps fear even plays a part here. The only solid, concrete fact is that throughout the 20 minutes of this tape, you may as well be sitting a hair's breadth from the artist, sharing every creak of his chair and every sideways glance at lights not glaring, but dull and warm.

Sparse instrumentation, breathy, unaffected vocals, and a genuine interest in lyrics heartfelt comprise the almost unnerving essence of every split second of these bated recordings.

This Relic is summoned in the form of a cassette. Blue tape shells are imprinted with white ink, housed in shrinkwrapped plastic norelco cases with full colour J-cards, featuring front cover artwork by Nicolette Polek and inner artwork by D.S. Ciarán.

From the deepest, most sincere depths the mind and heart can travel.

Farewell is born. For someone who happens to partake in some of the more pulverising black metal we've heard, California's Ross Major is certainly not afraid to relate to the softer side of his sound. And although the sounds may be soothing, the content of this short and sweet album falls upon one's ears with a heavy (but very much optimistic) heart.

Originally recorded as a special gift for his hometown friends as he left to go to school in Santa Cruz, Farewell details one musician's journey into not only a different social and economical setting, but also a transition into an entirely new and raw part of life.

Having listened to this short collection dozens of times over, we can say with outright honesty that we have never heard a more guileless artist, especially one with such an uncanny talent for composition and the placement & manipulation of strings (whether of nylon or something much deeper).

There are a few albums which one will come across in their lifetime that will truly make an impact and leave a mark so definitive that the songs themselves become a part of every day's rhythm. Like Mike Bruno's "Black Horses", these pieces are dark travellers in and of their own rite, littering the fairgrounds of mental carnivals across the world with their sweet lullabies and whispered whinnies.

As a label, to be able to finally put this album out on the proper format is not only a privilege, but also a blessing, and most certainly an honour. These three words may have internal ties with each other, but when it comes to sharing The Sad Sisters with the rest of the world, all three have their own foothold in this fantastical forest of aural delights.

These tracks play their roles on this album quite well; each tells its own separate story, but weaves itself so well into the next that you may as well be listening to a single piece. Even the moment when the arm lifts from the record and the inevitable trip to the turntable commences, one finds oneself with a sense of anticipation and eagerness, rather than annoyance. Wine glasses sound in a heavenly chorus, slipping in and out of the headspace left from the beat of the strings (or wings) of Bruno's guitar, simultaneously intricate and minimalistic, ultimately dark, and thoroughly uplifting. A voice of no small effort, at times harsh and others lulling, places complex melodies and harmonies alongside ambient washes of an otherwise quiet room's natural sound, making way for the defined, powerful oscillations of synthesisers and instruments of unknown origin.

"The Sad Sisters" was originally released in 2009 on compact disc through the imprint Marygarden Tapes + Things; a label quite close to home, being Bruno's very own. Now you can own it on the format of its true calling.

Original 2012 production; limited to 500 copies, black 12" vinyl records with black & red centre labels Housed in full colour jackets with artwork by Amanda Boutourling and Mike Bruno. 11.5" x 11.5" black & white inserts with full album lyrics and liner notes.

There is a stench here so old that it rids the body of any uncertainty. It is a comfortable rapture. The stench comes not from distant swamps, putrescent and green in their small wakes, or the mounds of bone matter and meat made dust underfoot. This waft of hidden and yet all-too demanding treasures lifts itself steadily from the bated, beating wings of the Bird, on its etermal voyage somewhere far past home.

Utilising both analogue synthesis and a dynamic range of acoustic instrumentation, Bird From the Abyss' Matias Aaltonen crafts definitively archaic compositions and flawlessly timed improvisations steeped in universal mystery. The tectonic movements developing and unfolding from these unholy hymns mold and fold into one another, cutting clear marks across certain borders while blurring any known remnants of others.

This eponymous opus combines three previously-released and long out of print EPs (I, II & III), a track created as an 'electronic synthesiser installation' (Electric Forest), and two tracks available only in digital format.

For any fans of the old Gloria Jones tune made all the more famous by the synth-pop group Soft Cell, this single packs a heavy punch, diving its short but sweet time between the monolithic dirge of Jhonn Balance's relatively young voice dragging over synthesised bells and other heavenly tones in their cover of a cover, and the pairing of two other brilliant, early tracks, Aqua Regis and Panic. The version of Panic from this single is a slowed down, clear and cold mess of very carefully placed sounds. Definitely something worth collecting for any Coil fanatic out there.

Whereas a large handful of synth-based electronic artists these days focus on creating the most complex, lush soundscapes and arpeggiated dancehall dreamstates they can muster, Post Modern allows Bowers to explore the distended Utopia of subway chants and skyscraper scrawls, tasting the muck beneath each rail and plucking every pearly white away from this imagined city's last dying grin. Picking the brains of (but never attempting to emulate) motherboard martyrs such as Aphex Twin, Nobuo Uematsu, and Karlheinz Stockhausen, this sublime collection of sounds ranges from pure static manipulated into pulsating sines of ethereal rhythms to resonating walls of homegrown ambiance.

Raw, pounding, visceral black metal takes a turn on its head when faced with dingy 90s crust-punk worship.

Too suffocating to be drone, too delayed and self-indulgent (in a very, very good way) to be noise, the debut album from London-based black noise monolith Corpse Candle certainly lives up to its given name, seeing the Witch for what it is. When it is all over, it has only been a half hour since the fires began burning, but you know in your heart that the only way you are coming down from that stake is in pieces.

An album so demandingly heavy that it required six different labels to lift it from the bowels of the deep ravine from which it was birthed. Blackened doom drones waver heavily, but don't stick around for long, as this record is ultimately more venom than brawn, choosing a slow, poisonous route in stead of a barrel of sound.
