Hal Hutchinson, "Severed" 3" CD-R

This may be one of my favourite hidden noise gems of the past few years, if only mostly due to the packaging.

This little treasure comes housed in a wonderful, stark black cardstock case with diluted grey and red artwork pasted on, graffiti like lettering, and a black and red speckled CD-R held in place by a rubber nub. Everything is then placed in a black handsewn felt bag. Quagga clearly takes pride in these small runs.

Carefully thought out drones drift between dirty hallways of cavernous cassette tape fuzz. A patient sound for a patient mind, this is certain, however it fortunately never seems to fall into the boring afterglow of ambient music's greatest follies.

Sine waves are meticulously plucked from their lowend partners, spun into a dance all their own.

Although this could all very easily be background noise to a sleepless night, there are always interesting nooks and crannies to be found in the abyss that is aural experimentation of the softly layered kind.
